State Party Treasurer Candidate Announcement
To the Democratic Party Officers and the State Central Committee:
It was a rare honor and privilege to represent the Democratic Party in my campaign for the governor’s office last year. I had three objectives, besides winning the election, I wanted to accomplish in that effort: 1. Bring balance to our state government; 2. Elevate public education to the top of our state’s priorities; and 3. Improve the transparency and inclusiveness of our state government.
We have made progress on these goals, but more needs to be done. My commitment to achieving these aspirations did not end with my defeat on election night. I want to stay involved and continue to advocate for democratic principles and priorities. I want the State Democratic Party to have a greater voice and influence in state government.
Since Susan Eastlake decided to step down as the State Party Treasurer, I would like to be considered for that position. My background as a Certified Public Accountant, and my experience in serving as a campaign treasurer for several candidates give me the technical qualifications for the office. I served as Stan Olson’s campaign treasurer when he ran for State Superintendent in 2010.
My candidacy for governor last year allowed me to meet many people all around our state. I met legislators from both political parties, local and county government officials, business owners, candidates for statewide, legislative and local positions, and ordinary citizens. I had many public speaking opportunities. All of this experience as well as the contacts I made would be beneficial for our state party treasurer.
I can fulfill the technical requirements of the job, and I can be an effective voice for the Democratic Party in Idaho. Therefore, I would ask the members of the Party to consider me for the position of State Party Treasurer. Please contact me at any time with your questions and ideas.
A J Balukoff
