~ For Friday, March 18:
Mentoring Friendships Transform Lives
This week's Democratic Club features Jamie Helwich, Press On Coordinator for the Salvation Army Kroc Center. She will be speaking on the power and significant impact one-on-one mentoring has on youth, especially those in middle school. Jamie will be providing information about how a mentor specifically influences a teen's overall development in a variety of domains simply through participating in a quality, mutual relationship. She will also talk about the program-Press On. Press On offers activities for students, and a mentoring relationship which provides the "fertile soil" that allows the Kroc's other efforts to be fruitful.
Please join us this Friday, March 18. The meeting will take place at the Iron Horse Bar and Grill, at 407 E Sherman Ave in Coeur d'Alene at 12:00 PM. Club meetings take place each Friday.
About Jamie Helwich:
I have lived in Coeur d'Alene for 20 years, raising my children, ages 17, 19 and 25, and working with challenged and at-risk youth in a variety of settings. I am fortunate to work at the Kroc Center, which provides excellent athletic, recreational and artistic opportunities for everyone in our community and passionate about equipping and empowering our local youth to overcome their challenges for brighter futures.
About the Press On program at the Kroc Center:
Press On is a developmental youth mentoring program offered through the Kroc Center which is designed to support and empower youth. Its purpose is equip them with the skills to overcome situational and environmental challenges and help them to become strong, hopeful and thriving young adults. Press On matches middle school youth with adult mentors who make the commitment to meet with the student once a week for at least one year.
