How Free Should Speech Be? How Should Free Speech Be?: Political Correctness In Academia And The World"
This month's Progressive Diners session will feature a discussion arising from the University Chicago Letter to Freshman regarding free speech on campus and the controversy around so-called politically correct speech.
The topic will be lead by Suzanne Marshall PhD. She will discuss the history of the term "politically correct," or PC, how it has evolved over the years, why it has become an issue and who has led the attack on PC language on campus. Followed by ideas and philosophies about free speech, its definition, purpose and protection. This will be a great opportunity to learn about this important issue and discuss it with a local expert.
Suzanne's PhD is in history. She has taught at the college level and is a published author.
The meeting takes place at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. The location is Seasons of Coeur d'Alene on the corner of 2nd Street and E. Lakeside Avenue.
Space is limited and available on a first come first-serve basis based on the time of your reservation. Please email Steve Moss with your RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a place at the table. Please arrive by 6:15 p.m. to check in, order dinner and get settled.
