As the first decade of the 21st Century draws to a close, I look back with mixed emotions. This past decade began with more American’s voting for Al Gore, but more Supreme Court Justices voting for George W. Bush. Marred at its beginning by the deaths of almost 3,000 American citizens killed in a heinous terrorist attack, the decade closed stained by the blood of nearly twice the American dead though a misdirected response to that attack. On a brighter note, we witnessed history last November with the election of Barack Hussein Obama, our first African American U.S. President. And here in Idaho’s 1st Congressional District, we sent a Democrat to Washington for the first time since 1992.

Now is the time to look forward, toward new hopes and new challenges, both at home in Kootenai County, and within the Great State of Idaho. The year 2010 brings with it elections for County Commissioners, State Legislators, Governor, and the U.S. Congress.

Consequently, the Kootenai County Democratic Central Committee is already planning for the 2010 elections. Our first step was formulating a budget that permits us to recruit and assist local, Democratic candidates. In these tight economic times, we are acutely aware of the need to stretch a dollar. So it is our intention to complete our mission to elect Democrats with the contribution level we received in 2009.

To do this, our annual pledge drive must generate $20,000. Consequently, I am asking each and every one of our 2009 Pledge Members to renew their contribution for the upcoming year by completing the enclosed pledge envelope and returning it to us by January 31, 2009. Can you do that?

Summarized on the back of this letter are some accomplishments from this past year, made possible with the prudent expenditure of your donations.

With your support, we will endeavor to give you a measurable return on your continued investment in us.
